Freedom Songs #4: Fireflight

I debated whether to do a “Fight Songs” or a “Freedom Songs” post, but my “Fight Songs” have sort of evolved into “Freedom Songs” as my focus has shifted to resting in God. I guess that also makes them “Flight Songs.”

Though Fireflight’s lyrics are somewhat descretly Christian, they are a Christian rock band. Therefore, their lyrics reflect that close relationship with Jesus and the freedom that is found in sharing our lives with Him.

Andrew and I used to listen to more mainstream artists, but Andrew’s parents always had the radio tuned to a local praise station in their home. I started to tune in at home and in the car, as well, and as I grew closer to the Lord I found that Christian music reflected where I was in my life much more than what I used to listen to. I also find it more comforting and peaceful as it helps me to keep my mind fixed on God.

In these stressful times having the radio tuned to the right station helps me so much. In fact, having our ears tuned to God makes a huge difference. When we learn to trust Him we do find peace, but learning to trust requires getting to know Him. It’s far easier to rest in (or put our faith and trust in) someone we know. It’s a lot more difficult to believe in someone you haven’t spent enough time with. When we do we begin to let go of our anxious thoughts knowing that He’s all the help we need.

I wish I could rescue people, but only God can do this. So I have to trust Him as much as anyone else.

I shared some Fireflight before. However, they’re such an awesome band. Fair warning, the top song is louder, but the bottom two are tamer beasts.

“I can feel the freedom. You’re the only one I need. I’m alive and finally breathing. You’re my recovery.”

“I know that you can tell when I let my hope fade away. I need to catch myself, open my ears to hear you calling my name. Been fighting way too long (I hear your voice) You had me all along.”

“I used to try and walk alone but I’ve begun to grow, and when You tell me just to rest, I’m finally letting go.”

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3 New King James Version (NKJV)

“Thou wilt keep him in peace; in perfect peace, inward peace, outward peace, peace with God, peace of conscience, peace at all times, in all events. Trust in the Lord for that peace, that portion, which will be for ever. Whatever we trust to the world for, it will last only for a moment; but those who trust in God shall not only find in him, but shall receive from him, strength that will carry them to that blessedness which is for ever. Let us then acknowledge him in all our ways, and rely on him in all trials.”

Yep, a birds eye view.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
