Woodland Flower

I’m waking up

Still, I’m not out of the woods.

For so long I’ve grown upon the forest floor

Light streaming through the trees

Yet, wanting more.

Watching the wild things pass on by

Searching for a glimpse of Your star filled sky.

I’m waking up

And I’m surrounded by trees.

I lost track of the time while I’ve been watching falling leaves

As You’ve faithfully been pulling and tugging at weeds.

But I’m waking up

And the sound is so sweet

For You’re gracefully working on a wretch like me.

The forest floor will be fine

I so love your thriving trees

And here

I’m much closer

To Your beautiful feet.

“And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His teaching.”

Luke 10:39

“After three days they found [Jesus] in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.”

Luke 2:46

“Sitting at Christ’s feet, signifies readiness to receive His word, and submission to the guidance of it. Martha was providing for the entertainment of Christ, and those that came with Him. Here were respect to our Lord Jesus and right care of her household affairs. But there was something to be blamed. She was for much serving; plenty, variety, and exactness. Worldly business is a snare to us, when it hinders us from serving God, and getting good to our souls. What needless time is wasted, and expense often laid out, even in entertaining professors of the gospel! Though Martha was on this occasion faulty, yet she was a true believer, and in her general conduct did not neglect the one thing needful. The favour of God is needful to our happiness; the salvation of Christ is needful to our safety. Where this is attended to, all other things will be rightly pursued. Christ declared, Mary hath chosen the good part. For one thing is needful, this one thing that she has done, to give up herself to the guidance of Christ.

  1. That’s stunning. I remember the town we stayed at in Switzerland each year. Walking to the station we would walk past this beautiful religious book shop. We would often stop and look. Some of the books in the window would be in English. I really could see a book of your poetry and writing sitting proudly there.

    1. Thank you, but it’s so much more than nature. I love using the metaphor of nature. The Bible is full of it. It’s one of the things that I love about God’s word. It’s not only full of wisdom it’s also incredibly beautiful just like everything He has created. Nature does provide a comforting refuge, but God Himself is my true comforter.

  2. Thank you for your prayers Tina. I really appreciate it. I was off the computer for 2 or 3 days. Sometimes I just get tired of it and need to do something different. But I can always use prayer. God bless.
