Faith and Patience

Faith and patience go hand in hand. It takes time for things to grow. Thankfully God doesn’t leave us unattended. He remains our gardener and He is with us always.

Those who believe in Jesus as their Master Gardner recieve the Holy Spirit who helps us to understand Scripture, comforts us, teaches us and gives us the strength to endure our troubles.

We know, however, that when life’s troubles become difficult some do abandon their faith. That seed that was planted can be snatched away if God’s word doesn’t go deep and take root. This makes understanding what we believe so important.

When faith doesn’t have a strong root it won’t survive. Trouble and persecution will cause a person with a weak root to fall away from God as a tree is uprooted in a storm. Worries and the deceitfulless of wealth can choke out God’s word as well.

Jesus taught these things to those who were interested in listening to Him. Such a large crowd had gathered around Him that he sat down in a boat while people stood on the shore. We find these lessons in Mathew 13. It’s known as the parable of the sower and the seeds. Jesus also spoke of a seed that falls on good soil.

“But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Matthew 13:16-17

Faith requires some give and take. God provides the lessons and we give Him our attention as we follow His lead. The journey isn’t always easy. However, no matter what we go through, those who serve Jesus through faith and patience do nothing in vain. We will recieve our reward and inherit all of God’s promises.

“For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for His name in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

Hebrews 6:10-12

This is such a great song. If you need some encouragement to persue Jesus, and have patience and faith in difficult times, this is a good one for that.
