Luminance

I want to be a light

But I fear I’m too dim

I want to be a guide

But I’m so lost within.

If I were sunshine I could brighten the day

I’d spill into a room and take storm clouds away.

But I’m just another soul

Who’s searching for words

Out on the waves

Listening for birds

Broken and battered

Worn from the storm

Tired of the fight

Foggy and forlorned.

I want to be a friend

But I’m afraid that I’m beat

I want to be a rock

But I’m not steady on my feet.

If I were starlight I could light up the sky

I’d be a compass for sailors and safe passage in the night

But I’m just another soul

Who’s still paddling at sea

Searching for dry land

Looking for peace

Overwhelmed by the night

Waiting for release.

“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life.”

Psalm 143:8

“I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”

Psalm 27:13-14 (KJV)

Jesus, The True Light of the World…

“God’s time to help those that trust in him, is, when all other helpers fail. He is a surer and better Friend than earthly parents are, or can be. What was the belief which supported the psalmist? That he should see the goodness of the Lord. There is nothing like the believing hope of eternal life, the foresights of that glory, and foretastes of those pleasures, to keep us from fainting under all calamities. In the mean time he should be strengthened to bear up under his burdens. Let us look unto the suffering Saviour, and pray in faith, not to be delivered into the hands of our enemies. Let us encourage each other to wait on the Lord, with patient expectation, and fervent prayer.”

  1. Jesus is your lighthouse giving you direction when it is dim. He is your friend in your boat in the midst of the storm and he is your anchor when you don’t feel steady. Praying you feel Him in all of these ways.

  2. Tina, An amazing poem. It brought to mind this quote from Mother Theresa that I keep on my nightstand: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” God loves us, shelters us under His wings, and gives us peace. Our job is to spread His love.

    1. Thanks Jeanne. That’s such a great quote. I definitely put too much pressure on myself. I realized recently that this is because people expect their joy to come from other people. We all disapoint even if we are doing our best. Nothing compares to the Love of Christ. He never fails or dissapoints and He will lead us to that shore when we are struggling to paddle. So, I definitely have to learn to give Him the weight and stop trying to save the world. He already made a way on the cross. You are so right, our joy is to spread that love, and joy even.

      1. It is easy to put pressure on ourselves and to become overwhelmed. We need to learn to give it up to God. Something that I keep reminding myself. 😊
