Transformation

Even the caterpillar must spread its wings

It can’t stay a chrysalis

It must be changed.

Does it resist?

Does it cling to its cocoon?

No, It seems to embrace that change is good news.

It knows the way forward

Is both beauty and peace

Just as the follower who trusts and seeks

For when the Lord becomes our focus

Jesus may take the lead

And our apprehensive resistance

Becomes our joyful plea.

“God, examine me and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any bad thing in me. Lead me on the road to everlasting life.”

Psalm 139:23-24

Surrendering Self

“The terrible thing, the almost impossible thing, is to hand over your whole self—all your wishes and precautions—to Christ. But it is far easier than what we are all trying to do instead. For what we are trying to do is to remain what we call ‘ourselves’, to keep personal happiness as our great aim in life, and yet at the same time be ‘good’. We are all trying to let our mind and heart go their own way — centered on money or pleasure or ambition—and hoping, in spite of this, to behave honestly and chastely and humbly. And that is exactly what Christ warned us you could not do. As He said, a thistle cannot produce figs. If I am a field that contains nothing but grass-seed, I cannot produce wheat. Cutting the grass may keep it short: but I shall still produce grass and no wheat. If I want to produce wheat, the change must go deeper than the surface. I must be ploughed up and re-sown.” – C.S. Lewis/Mere Christianity

“And He [Jesus] said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:3

    1. I’m so glad. It’s wonderful to write about and focus on the transformation. We can look at change so cynically. I do it too. I don’t want to. I want to focus on the beauty, the peace, hope and every other wonderful thing that comes with being a child of God and belonging to Christ.

      1. So very true. When change comes along, we tend to dig our heels in the ground. But you are so right. We have to trust God and allow Him to have control as we watch in wonder at the beautiful transformation taking place.

  2. Tina, what a wonderful poem! I agree that when we follow God’s path for us, it brings us joy, beauty, and peace. 🌼
As a side note, I have monarch caterpillars living and growing on my butterfly bushes. Watching them grow and transform eventually into butterflies is amazing! 🦋🦋🦋

  3. Ah, yes, we must learn to rest on the transformation, knowing that, in His hands, it is all for good. What a lovely thought, Tina! Butterflies are one of my favorites! ❤
