Power Outage

I’m not a big fan of sudden, unexpected power outages. As the case may be they’re almost always sudden and unexpected. Life is the same way. Things have a way of changing on a dime. 

Thankfully our power outage occurred on Monday morning after I’d posted on my blog, caught up with a friend, and responded to some comments. I was in a good mood when I fed our two beautiful kitties and then headed to get cleaned up. Mid way through my shower the lights went out. I’m still here, so obviously it wasn’t my lights that went out! That’s something to be thankful for too. Showering in the dark is really creepy, but I soldiered on. (Insert laughing.) 

My first thought was, I can’t dry my hair. My second thought was, I won’t be able to make my protein  smoothy or cook anything for breakfast. Then came the thought, What will I do till I wait for the power to come back on? 

Andrew headed outside to see if the block was out or if we blew a breaker. We share a house so it could have meant getting one of our upstairs neighbors to check the box. Lo and behold there was a work crew half way down the block doing something to the power box. Andrew found out that they would be at least an hour working on it. 

This got me thinking about the things we can and can’t live without. I knew I would write, and thankfully a tablet works great for writing during a power outage. A sweet little grey cat curled up next to me in bed and softly purred as Andrew napped on the sofa. He muttered something in his sleep a bit… (Insert laughter.) 

There are still so many things to be thankful for even when life is interrupted and we’re stumbling around in the dark. There are still so many things to light that path, especially God’s word which is always a light to our path. Jesus is our power source that never goes out.

The Lord has given us everything we need. We just have to keep plugging into Him, watching, listening, praying and waiting. The power will be restored and the lights will come on full again. Until then we can continue to sit around with wet hair waiting to be fed, listening to our tummies growl. (Insert more laughter.)

  4. So true; “God’s word which is always a light to our path. Jesus is our power source that never goes out.” What a blessing! We do have much to be grateful for!
    Here in the “country” when the power goes out we have no water (we need electricity to run the pump). Blessings! 🌼🌺🐔
