Heart Burn

Were not our hearts burning?

Yes, when He spoke with us on the road to Emmaus.

Reclining at the table, Jesus broke bread with us!

He opened up the Scripture to us!

But we were slow to believe

Wanting proof, some went to the tomb and found it empty.

The prophets had spoken these things!

He Himself even told us that He’d suffer

Then enter into His glory

Beginning with Moses and all the prophets,

He explained the things that were written of Him in Scripture.

As we walked with Him on the road He appeared to wander further

We pleaded with Him to stay

Daylight was fading.

Jesus sat at our table!

We didn’t recognize Him.

We couldn’t see Him with our eyes

But our hearts knew

He broke the bread, saying a blessing and then handed it to us

Our Lord and our God! Our eyes were opened!

And then He vanished.

Yes, our hearts knew.

We’re not our hearts burning within us?

Here is a really insightful snippet of what Manu shared on this event that occurred the day of Jesus’ Ressurection.

Seeing Jesus for who He is and not only as what we want Him to be

“We can miss out on who He is because we are so focused on who we want Him to be. Their outward inability to recognise Jesus mirrored their inward unbelief of what the scripture revealed about Him. Jesus intended for them to recognise Him but He wanted for them to recognise and believe with their heart and only then with their eyes. Jesus knew He was not going to be bodily present from then on with them and He wanted people to put their faith in Him with their hearts rather than relying on only what they see. May we Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding.”

      2. Well…it didn’t go as planned. We were supposed to be able to go to church, but then the government extended the restrictions. So we did online church. It was good though.

  9. Tina, thanks so much for sharing your own witness to the enduring hope our Risen Savior offers each of us. Every time I read from Scripture about meeting Jesus on the road to Emmaus, I imagine being there as well. Blessings.

  10. Thank you. how much do we do that with life in general – miss out on the blessings and even the path – because we don’t see what we want to see. Great reflection on a wonderful scripture
