Untangled

So tell me, is there any Disney character you can relate to? Rapunzel is my gal.

If you haven’t seen Disney’s Tangled let me give you a short recap. Rapunzel has been locked away in a tower for much of her life. She waits and waits to be released from her isolation. In the movie she so wants to see what those lights are she sees in the distance at the same time every year. There’s a dream in her heart as she longingly awaits those days of adventure.

When I first noted that my life paralleled Rapunzel’s, we were living and working from our third story apartment; we didn’t get out of the apartment much, not only for health reasons, but we were also very tethered to our home based business. On top of that physical isolation, I’ve struggled with depression off and on since I was a teenager. Depression itself can leave you feeling locked inside yourself.

I related to Rapunzel because she looks at life outside her window with anticipation and wonder. I also relate to how she finds joy and excitement in everyday adventures, but her emotions can quickly go up and down. I smile and chuckle when she second guesses herself and frets over the courageous steps she decides to take. That is so me.

Did I mention I was also born a blond, and that when my mom had my long magical blond locks cut they turned brown? Just like Rapunzel’s! 😮😮😮

Okay, so maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. My hair is far from magical, and I don’t believe that it’s my mom’s fault that I’m a brunette.

Moving on….

My mom had my locks chopped because my fine hair tangled very easily. I sometimes view my life in the same way: it can become tangled very easily. However, my God is an expert detangler. My hair isn’t the only thing in need of some guidance and management.

If all of these parallels weren’t enough to convince me that I’m Rapunzel, I have green eyes and tears that can heal. (You think I’m kidding, right?) Oh, it’s no joke. In fact I learned this little secret from my favourite book. ❤ It also happens to be one of my favourite verses.

Healing of the Nations Comes through the planting of God’s Word

“Those who cry while they plant will joyfully sing while they harvest. The person who goes out weeping, carrying his bag of seed, will come home singing, carrying his bundles of grain.” —

Psalm 126:5-6 (GOD’s WORD Translation)

Though we may weep as we sow, we will also sing as we harvest. And everyone knows that Disney characters eventually go out singing with shouts of joy.

Therefore, don’t become weary in doing good even if the path brings tears. In due time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up. (Galatians 6:9)

This is my favorite song from Tangled. Every time I’ve listened to it it’s made me think of my relationship with God. That makes this father/daughter version so special. ❤❤

  1. Hello, Tina! My favorite Disney character is Winnie-the-Pooh, because He never seems quite sure of himself. I can relate to that so well. Inside, I want to be the fearless Tigger. At times, I rise to the occasion, but Pooh is my guy.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Winnie-the-Pooh is a great character. 😊 You’re late for Thanksgiving! 😂🤣🤣 Just giving you a hard time. We celebrate Thanksgiving a little earlier in Canada 🇨🇦. We’re too hungry to wait. 🤣😂🤣 Happy belated Thanksgiving, David.
