A Journey Through John: Blind

Image by Amore Seymour from Pixabay

My journey through the Book of John began in 2020 and slowed to a snail’s pace. 🐌 A lot has changed since I began working on this poetry study. It’s time to get back on the trail.

By poetry study, I mean that as I was reading through the book of John, meditating on various verses along the way, I then expressed the message through poetry. This not only helps me praise and give thanks to God, but it also helps me to store up His word in my heart and gain more understanding. I hope that by sharing this study and journey, it will press upon your hearts and help draw you closer to the Lord as well. ❀️

Blind

Father, you’ve so loved us

I now see this at the cross

Before you sent us Jesus

Our souls were inconceivably lost.

We understood only with our senses

We had no spiritual sight

Thus the one who came as light

Was hung upon the cross.

The world never truly knew You

Your people were so blind

Our Lord, who created all things

And who, in the darkness, shines.

How could we recognize You

Before you opened up our eyes?

Through the cross we’ve been released

From living life as the lost and blind.

The Word Wasn’t Accepted

The Word means message and refers to Jesus. For Jesus was God’s message and messenger. However, the world didn’t know Him. (They didn’t recognize who He claimed to be β€” The Son of God, which was considered blasphemy to the Jews. For they understood that Jesus was claiming to be God in the flesh.) For this reason, they didn’t accept him. But some did choose to follow Jesus, listen to Him, and learn from Him. It’s through accepting Him and getting to know Jesus that we can regain our spiritual perception.

The Word was in the world. The world was made through Him, but the world did not know Him. He came to the world that was His own. But His own people did not accept Him.”

John 1:10-11

Loss of Spiritual Perception (Blind)

The world, then, in its highest creature man, with spiritual power for seeing the true Light, ought to have recognised Him. Spirit ought to have felt and known His presence. In this would have been the exercise of its true power and its highest good. But the world was sense-bound, and lost its spiritual perception, and β€œknew Him not.” This verse brings back again the thought of John 1:3-5, to prepare for the deeper gloom which follows.

  1. For this people’s heart is waxed thick, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; Lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
    Matthew 13:15

    1. Yes, what a eye opening verse, Carlos. Thank you for sharing. May we be a people with spiritual sight, who not only see, but do. And may those without spiritual sight come to know Jesus and be healed. πŸ₯° Amen.

    1. Yes, and thank you for visiting my blog, Bridget. Thank you as well for the comment. There haven’t been enough hours in the day to be consistent with my blogging or visit your wonderful blog, sadly. Now my next journey is going to be including college again to get my certification to work with infants and toddlers. As I’m currently working in that department, and want to continue this journey, I need the license to secure my position. I do enjoy working with the littlest of ‘littles.’ It has it’s stresses at times, but it also is filled with it’s blessings.

I’m still hoping to hold onto my blogging and writing. I so enjoy writing for and about God and encouraging others. I just have to see how demanding my work and college load will be.

However, while I have some time before it gets so busy again. I’m going to make it a priority to visit your blog. I’m sure it will be a wonderful read. It always has been. Have a lovely wekened my friend. πŸ’•

      1. I completely understand how hectic life can be. Especially when life brings us down a new path, we have to readjust and find a β€œnew normal.” I pray that your school work isn’t too demanding and that you flourish in the path ahead. I can definitely understand the little ones being a challenge at times! But I’m so glad you are finding blessings as well. I hope you are able to find a balance to continue blogging. I have missed my wanna-be-neighbor 😁 I hope you have a lovely weekend too! Be kind to yourself πŸ’
