It’s Not a Coincidence: It’s Your Confidence Booster

Let me ask you a question: have you ever experienced something too coincidental to be explained simply as chance? Has a sudden event—maybe even something you’ve read or heard—given you the profound sense that you were seen, heard, and cared for? Perhaps so much so that you knew, in your heart of hearts, it was meant for you. If so, you likely believe there’s a higher power at work in the world. What you’ve experienced—or recognized—is God’s still, small voice.

From this point forward, I’d like to refer to these not-so-“freak” occurrences as confidence boosters. However, there’s a caveat: these gifts of God’s grace aren’t often intended to elevate our own self-esteem. Rather, they bolster our relationship with Him. They build our ability to trust in His provisions. They provide an opportunity to see Him actively at work in our lives and in the world, enabling us to move forward in faith with strength and courage in Him.

Likely most of God’s people will understand what I’m referring to, having experienced His guiding hand in their own lives. However, if you’re only begining your journey with God or need a refresher course, numerous accounts can also be found recorded in Scripture.

A Biblical Example: The Book of Esther

Esther was a Jewish girl brought up by her uncle Mordecai, who taught her not to reveal her nationality and family background. Why? Some scholars point to an anti-Jewish sentiment during that time. Other sources note that King Xerxes’ impulsive decision-making may have prompted Mordecai’s distrust. Regardless of the reason, Mordecai must have felt that being Jewish was a volatile subject, which could compromise their safety.

When Queen Vashti was dethroned for what King Xerxes considered disrespect—her refusal to oblige the king’s request—a replacement queen was ordered. Esther was among the women who were presented to the king, winning his heart with her incomparable beauty. Becoming queen put Esther in a place of influence—especially when things began to go awry. During these events, Mordecai voiced to Esther that perhaps she was queen for such a time as this—indicating his belief in providence. Perhaps this recognition is also what enabled both Esther and Mordecai to act with bravery.

A Study Guide: Insights from the Bible Project

For a deeper study and explanation of events, check out the Bible Project’s link to the story of Esther. Bear in mind that this is an unusual book of the Bible. The Bible Project puts it this way:

“Esther is a curious book in the Bible because God is never mentioned, not once. This may strike you as odd because the Bible is supposed to be a book about God. However, this is a brilliant technique by the anonymous author. It’s an invitation to read the story looking for God’s activity, and there are signs of it everywhere. The story is full of odd coincidences and ironic reversals that force you to see God’s purpose at work behind every scene.”

Thank you for reading, and God bless. ♥️

  1. This was a confidence boost because I happened to be reading about Esther in my daily devotions this morning! 😁 And what I read also eluded to a confidence boost within the story. Something I hadn’t considered before regarding why Esther didn’t act on the first night, but asked for a second meeting. The author wrote, “My guess is that she felt the inner nudge to push pause… That evening the king had trouble sleeping, so he read the record books of his reign and remembered afresh how Mordecai had saved his life. God used this delay to add weight to Esther’s appeal.” (From “Prevail” by Susie Larson.) I really love what you shared here. And I had heard before that God was not mentioned in this book. So I really appreciate what you shared about looking for God in the story. Such a great point. I’m looking forward to your personal confidence boost story!

    1. I’m so glad it was a confidence booster for you, Bridget. And wow! That is a very interesting insight regarding why Esther didn’t act on the first night. Yes, definitely could have been that inner nudge. A nudge that we are wise to act on when it comes. May God speak so clearly to our hearts when we need to pause as well. Thank you so much for sharing that Bridget. 💗 Enjoy your weekend.

  2. Hi Tina, I like that you call God’s voice a confidence booster. I had never really thought of it in that context before, but when you feel, see, or hear Him, it is a confidence booster. This helps us to realize that He is actively at work in our lives, guiding and protecting us.
    Peace and Blessings! 🌺💖💐🐈🌺
