Freedom Songs #3: Need to Breathe

Hope Rises…

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.

Psalm 130:5 (NIV)

Need to Breathe

Need to Breathe has some great stuff. However, this one particular song is really speaking to me. It’s moving, but there’s one line that confuses me. It’s when “Bear” sings, Give me something vicious.

Vicious? Really? He is a bear! Is this like when people say wicked but what they really mean is totally awesome? I’m going to assume that he means vicious is something really “wicked.” Then the whole song makes sense. I don’t need all the drums though. He can keep all the drums. (Man, “Bear” really loves drums. Just keep it down up there!) We did have an upstairs neighbor who once banged away on a drum late at night. Why is it always late at night? *rolls eyes twice.*

“Give me something sacred. Something worth fighting for.”

Mmhmm. Now this resonates with me.

Poetry Past…

Struggle

Lord, sometimes everything feels like a struggle
A struggle to let go
A struggle to hold on
A struggle to speak
A struggle to stay silent
A struggle to stand still
A struggle to move forward…
Sometimes it feels like a tug of war
My heart splits in all directions
My thoughts scatter after them
But as a whole it belongs to You
Oh Lord, please gather the pieces
And speak peace into the struggle
Lord, You are the light in the darkness
My hope.

Poetry Present…

Let Hope Rise

Be still my soul

God’s still in control

Rest at His feet

Embrace what you know

Don’t be afraid

You’re forgiven and free

The blood of Christ has washed you clean

Don’t buy the lies

God’s word is wise

Release the guilt

And let hope rise.

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.”

Psalm 43:5

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness

1 John 1:9

God’s Kid Speaks

I’m God’s kid

And I’m not afraid to say it

This means that I follow Jesus

And I move to the beat of a different drum

Some people don’t like this

But that’s okay

I hope they will one day

And so I pray

I’m God’s kid

And I’m not afraid to speak

I share what I know because I know that it’s good

It can be trusted

It’s wise

And it opens people’s eyes

Some people don’t prefer this

They wish that I were more like them

But I’ve got to be me

That’s okay

I once was blind, too

But now I see

This isn’t arrogance

This isn’t pride

I simply believe that I’m finally alive

I once was dead

I once was lost

But then I was told about that old rugged cross. 👑
