Harebrained

I had a thought, but then it was gone

I should have known it wouldn’t hold on

Quick as a bunny

It came and it went

Apparently, my brain has a vent.

I had a thought, but it hared right off

I thought it was cozy, but it didn’t stay long

I offered it tea

And a bite of brie

But, alas, it was wild, so it chose to run free.

This is a work of fiction. I wasn’t having one of those moments–this time!

Hared: run with great speed. (Fun word!)

Thoughts on Thinking…

“Those who live following their sinful selves think only about things that their sinful selves want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about the things the Spirit wants them to do. If people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if their thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace.”

Romans 8:5-6

I couldn’t find a clear and concise Bible commentary for this one, but the simplest way to explain this verse would be to say that if we aren’t thinking about what God wants we won’t be obedient to Him. Instead, we will do as we please, or rather what pleases us. However, those who follow Christ must live as Jesus lived. Jesus denied Himself to defer to the will of the Father. When our minds are set on heavenly things (God’s desires) over earthly things (our own desires) we aren’t at war with God. Therefore, there is life and peace.

Those who won’t listen to the Holy Spirit fight God’s will. It’s very much like a child who won’t listen to their parents. This person’s thoughts are consumed with their own desires and comforts. They won’t know the Lord’s love and the blessings that come with being a friend of God. Therefore, they will neither experience that peace that transcends understanding–that is, the calm in the middle of a storm, nor true life, as we were created to follow the Spirit’s lead and walk humbly with our God.

    1. I thought about being a teacher! 😃 But a teacher talked me out of it… lol. I don’t remember what he said, only that when I mentioned I was considering teaching he started to list things that he felt might suit me better. His lack of confidence in me made me lose confidence in the idea.

  1. Thanks for this. I do need to be more mindful. Sometimes when I have a number of things coming at me at once, I get frazzled and things go downhill. I am working on it. Thank you for the nudge and God bless you!
