A Flash From Christmas Past 🎄

Why am I posting something from Christmas so close to Easter? The answer is simple: I needed something light for my blog, couldn’t come up with anything, so Andrew suggested this draft that never made it onto my blog in a timely manner.

My husband thinks he’s a Duke boy. If you’ve never heard of the comedy seriesThe Dukes of Hazzard, either you don’t live in a country that aired the show, you didn’t grow up in the 80’s, or you weren’t born on this planet.

No matter, all you need to know is that the drive to the movie theatre takes us down quite a bumpy road. The way Andrew drove made it an even bumper ride. I’m certain that if we were to hit a good incline we too would fly through the air just like the Duke boy’s General Lee.

That being said, it was Christmas eve as we drove to see Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker. Did you see it? What did you think? I actually wasn’t going to see anymore Star Wars movies after the first two in this series, but Andrew really wanted to and I became curious. 

I was glad that we went. It held my attention, it felt more like a true Star Wars movie to me, and I loved all of the comradery. There were interesting enough plot elements. Plus, it had a happy ending.

Nevertheless, I know people who hated it, or won’t go to see it because they say that it ruins the Darth Vader legacy. (No way.) I don’t think so. Besides, what legacy is that? The legacy of choosing the dark side?

I’m not sure legacy is the right way to put it. Maybe “prophecy” would be better. Vader was supposed to bring balance to the force. He chose the dark side, but in the end he came around, saved his son and supposedly killed the evil emperor Palpatine. That’s another problem people have with this movie. Palpatine isn’t dead. See the movie, you’ll find out why he didn’t die. There were other nit picky things that people didn’t like, but I didn’t notice.

If you consider Darth’s choosing good over evil as his legacy (even if it was in the end), then his legacy did live on through his heirs: Luke and Leia. A legacy continues. It doesn’t stay with the person who started it. That’s why Christians are called to disciple others. Jesus legacy must continue. 

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” –Matthew 28:19-20 

This piece took a bit of a detour, but drives are like that sometimes. As we drove to the theatre we were jostled about by the bumpy road. “Let it snow” played over the radio as Andrew teased me with the line, “But If you really hold me tight.…”

I responded with, “If I wasn’t belted in, I’d have to hold you tight or I’d fly right out of the vehicle!” He laughed and said, “That’s my girl! My brother would have loved you. He would have said, how did you get her? She should have been my girl.” 

All in all, it was a blessed Christmas Eve. Love was in the air, and love was in Darth Vader’s heirs. Now that’s the essence of Christmas isn’t it? For God so loved the world…
