F(L)ight Songs #7

This isn’t an ordinary F(L)ight songs. However, how God met me–when I needed Him to meet me–wasn’t ordinary either. Sometimes Jesus chooses to meet us halfway. It’s wonderful that He plans ahead of time exactly what we’ll need. I can forget, too easily, that He goes before us and He lovingly hems us in.

“Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.

You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.

You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have laid your hand on me! This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength.

Psalm 139:1-6 (The Passion Translation)

God is faithful and all loving. I was reminded of this when it snowed a couple of weeks ago. Church was canceled, yet the sermon I decided to listen to was exactly what I needed. I really needed the reminder to lay things at Jesus’ feet. I even wrote the words in an email that morning. “I really REALLY need to learn to give things to God.”

My first F(L)ight song below was my second reminder: Stop listening to lies. Stop hanging on Satan’s every word.

Yes, he speaks too. He speaks to our foolish or worn-out hearts. I think it’s usually a good measure of both.

While I was looking for a song about giving things to Jesus, my reminder came through a song sung by Celine Dion. (The Holy Spirit can redirect us when He wants to.)

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.

Proverbs 21:1 (New King James Version)

I’m unsure of the intended meaning behind this song. Nevertheless, my heart recieved it as a loving reminder to reject the song and dance that Satan enjoys performing on our hearts: lies meant to discourage us or cause us to stumble on our journey of faith. May we trust instead in the power of God and start dreaming again.

Because of God’s Mercy We are not Overcome

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.”

Romans 16:20 (ESV)

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NIV)

On My Knees

Too long I have believed

  his lies and been deceived

Too long I’ve been so weak

Prey to venomous speech.

His lies have been convincing

to a worn out heart and mind

But I’m tired of all his dancing

On this weary heart of mine.

Too long I’ve been convinced

on a road that winds and bends

Too long I’ve felt so trapped

In a Wasteland with no end.

But it’s time to take a leap

Time to lay things at God’s feet

Time to get down on my knees

And trust my God with all these needs.

We Can Trust Jesus With Our Hearts and Lives

And those who know your name put

their trust in you,

for you, O LORD, have not forsaken

those who seek you.”

Psalm 9:10

“Those who trust in their own reasoning are fools, but those who walk in wisdom will be kept safe.”

Proverbs 28:26

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I [Jesus] came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

John 10:10

“My God will meet your every need out of His riches in the glory that is found in Christ Jesus.”

  1. Thank you for this encouragement today! I love what you said about, “reject the song and dance that Satan enjoys performing on our hearts: lies meant to discourage us or cause us to stumble on our journey of faith. May we trust instead in the power of God and start dreaming again.” Yes and amen! The enemy is so good at bringing us down. But we have Jesus on our side!! 🙌✝️🙏

  3. Tina, it is important to realize the lies we’ve been told and place them at God’s feet. All the put-downs and hits at self-esteem and learned prejudices. Some of the lies we carry over from our childhood; we have accepted as truths. We are His beloved and need to ask God to protect us from evil and to help us discern the lies Satan pushes at us. God will guide us. A great poem! 💗💐🌺
