We can’t have the best of both worlds because one of these worlds simply isn’t best. There is only one way. But we can choose the Wayβthat is, the light of this world (the answers to the confusion) Jesus Christ.
God has graciously offered to illuminate our path. He will also supply the things He knows we need for the journey, things that will help us to achieve that full abundant life in Him.
When Jesus stated “I am the Way, the truth and the life.” He was making a bold statement about who He is. He was saying that He alone is God (I AM – Exodus 3:14). Jesus is one with the Father. However, He was nearly stoned to death for these words because his Jewish opponents of the time considered his statement blasphemy. (John 10:30 – 33)
Jesus not only claimed to be God. Jesus went on to say that he is the truth and the life. The truth is, that in a confusing world, where it’s difficult to see where to draw the line between wrong and right, Jesus’ is the truth. So He asks us to allow Him to guide us. He tells us to follow him. By doing so we will not only find that abundant, meaningful life in following Him, He will also save our lives. (Our souls)Β For as Jesus put it, we are like sheep without a Shepherd. Every one of us has gone astray.
The beautiful thing about God’s offer of loving guidance, grace and mercy is that He is willing to go after the one who has gone astray.Β In a parable, Jesus put it this way:Β
βWhat do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountain and go in search of the one that is lost?
Matthew 18:12
God loves us so much that He didn’t simply send a messenger. Oh, He did give that approach a good try. He sent many messengers. (Prophets) But the world wouldn’t receive them. In fact, they even beat them and had some of them brutally put to death. Jesus had a parable about this as well. (Mark 12:3-8)
Finally, God sent his son (God himself became the messenger). He came down from his throne in heaven. Even after the cruel slaughter of his messengers God still wanted to save the lost. That’s how much He loves lost sinners. Nevertheless, Jesus was also put to death, and this too was part of his plan. You see, through the blood that Jesus shed on the cross He paid it all to set the sinner free. By his blood (a pure, holy, unblemished sacrifice) those who accept His offer of salvation are set free, and forever changed.Β
In return we become His messengers, sharing the gospel story of Jesus Christ, (which simply means the ‘good news.’ ) β€
Jesus is God’s Love Come Down
Jesus said, βI am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me. John 14:6 (The Message)
βFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (ESV)
βCome, follow me,β Jesus said, βand I will send you out to fish for people.β (NIV)
Matthew 4:19
Amen, Tina. This is better than my pastorβs sermon was this morning. And heβs a good preacher!
Jesusβ way-truth-life statement was quite definitive. Thereβs not much room for wiggle room; we either accept him as the ultimate Boss of all time, or we do not.
Thank you for sharing these power thoughts, sister. πThe Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord cause His face to shine upon you, and give you peace. πAmen
