Flat Lining

Behind the Poem:

I’ve probably struggled a bit with depression since I was a teen. I’m convinced that I’m one of those people who is sensitive to fluctuating hormones. I’m also prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder, I have Hashimoto’s Disease and I’m in Perimenopause. Add a pandemic and isolation into the mix and it’s a perfect storm that creates more depression. Anxiety has also kicked in pretty good.

Winter has been difficult despite the fact that we’ve had a mild one. Emotionally I’ve been very flat far too often. It wears on me. The day I wrote this poem was one of those incredibly flat days. I can feel like God is so far away. I can’t focus too well on things that should bring me comfort. But I’m still trying to hold onto hope and God’s promises. He is still good, even when I don’t feel so good.

Flat Lining

She’s flat lining

No, it isn’t her heart

It’s her head

It’s her emotions

They’re dead

It sounds so melancholy

But this too shall pass

Perhaps not today

But battles don’t last

She’s flat lining

But it’s okay

It’s just another day caught up in grey

But beyond those thick clouds

There’s still life to be found

She can’t see it

But she can taste it

For God won’t let her down.

Jesus is our Help in time of Need

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

Psalm 34:8 (NIV)

“Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help.””

Romans 10:11-13 (The Message)

“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her!”

Luke 1:45 (NIV)

Even though it feels numb at times, he is still there. Jesus loves you and you can be 100% honest with him about how you are feeling. Love you 🙂

  4. Hugs ma’am. I believe just as you have shared in Romans, that He will surely show up for us when we call upon Him. Keep drawing strength from Him. Remember – You are greatly loved and cared for by Him. ❤
